Bargain Queen. This is one of my favorite “feel good” songs. My good friend and co-writer, Brenda Russell, and I were reminiscing about growing up on the farm. Both of our mothers were (and still are) masters at making something out of nothing. This is a tribute to Marjorie and Carlene — true “Bargain Queens.”

Changed. A request was sent out to write songs from Galatians for upcoming church services. Paul writes about the change that God’s grace has upon our lives when we cast off the bondage and shackles of sin through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our response should be to live in abandon and freedom serving the One who set us free.

McPhee School Anthem. I was asked to write a school anthem for McPhee Elementary where I taught general music. An urban sound sung by kids whose families literally came from all over the world was what was needed. The rhythms of people coming together to live, work, and provide for their families in this setting was a daily inspiration.

Where Will They Play. Co-writer, Brenda Russell, and I were contemplating the plight of our living environment: Two farm girls living in the midst of a concrete jungle. City life had much to offer. However, we could not help but ponder the future of our world in the midst of development made in the name of “progress.”
